Women’s Soccer Welcomes Navy Friday In NCAA First Round

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (10-6-4) will open NCAA Tournament play Friday when it welcomes Navy (16-2-3) to Dail Soccer Stadium for the NCAA First Round. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Raleigh, and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday will be the sixth meeting in program history between the Wolfpack and Mids, as NC State owns a perfect 5-0-0 record in the all-time series.
The teams last met on Aug. 16, 2018 in Annapolis, Md., and the Wolfpack won 2-1 thanks to a pair of second half goals by Tziarra King.
LAST TIME OUT
The team's run in the ACC Championship came to a close on Nov. 8 when it fell to eventual tournament champion, North Carolina, 3-0, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
It was the second time in three years that the Wolfpack has advanced to the semifinals of the championship, and third berth in the past four seasons to the tournament.
FOUR IN A ROW
NC State earned its fourth consecutive at large bid to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Tim Santoro. It is the first time since the 1989-92 seasons that the program has earned four trips in a row to the tournament.
The 2019 campaign additionally marks the third consecutive year the Pack has hosted the NCAA First Round at Dail Soccer Stadium.
WOLFPACK, MIDS CONNECTION
This Friday, Navy women's soccer head coach Carin Gabarra will see a familiar face in Raleigh as her son, Tyler, plays on the NC State men's soccer team.

The program is 12-12-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has moved forward out of the first round 11 times. The Pack has advanced to the Sweet Sixteen twice in the last three years (2016, '18), and went to the NCAA Second Round in 2017.
SCOUTING NAVY
The Mids captured the Patriot League Championship to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after winning the regular season title with a 6-1-2 record and 20 points. Their only other loss of the season was on Aug. 25 vs. Louisiana State, a 1-0 2OT result.
Eight players from Navy's roster captured All-Patriot League honors, headlined by Alex Johnson and Kaitlynn Johns who were named Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively.
Beasley McClaskey and Carolyn Mang lead the team with four goals apiece, while McClaskey owns a team-best five assists. Sydney Fortson has played a majority of the minutes in goal this season and owns a .42 goals-against average. Combined, the squad has tallied 13 shutouts.
