RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will both start their 2019-20 campaigns ranked in the top four of the national standings, as the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its preseason poll on Wednesday.
The Pack men will begin the year at No. 3 overall as the highest-ranked ACC squad, and the Wolfpack women check in at No. 4 in the nation. The preseason rankings match the final 2018-19 standings that the teams secured at the end of the last swimming and diving season.
NC State's men enter the season after another successful campaign in 2018-19 that ended with the squad finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships for the fourth year in a row. Senior captain Andreas Vazaios repeated as a national titlist in the 200-yard butterfly, making it four seasons in a row that the Pack men have seen at least one national champion crowned.
During the regular season, the NC State men went unbeaten in head-to-head matchups with other programs. The team then went on to claim its fifth-straight and 29th-overall conference title at the 2019 ACC Championships.
The Wolfpack women enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2018-19. NC State finished as the No. 7 team at the NCAA Championships for the second time in three seasons. The result tied the best national finish in the program's history.
NC State also won its second conference championship in three years at the 2019 ACC Championships. The team finished with a total of 11 event titles at the conference meet, setting the program record for the most single-season conference titles.
