The ITA All-American Championships gets underway this weekend with pre-qualifying rounds (Oct. 5-6) and qualifying rounds (Oct. 7-8) before main draw competition (Oct. 9-13) starts.
Yannai Barkai, Robin Catry, Rafa Izquierdo Luque, Martins Rocens and Robert Turzak will begin action in the pre-qualifying singles draw on Saturday. A total of 16 players will advance from these rounds to the qualifying draw.
Junior Tadas Babelis earned automatic selection to compete in the qualifiers. Players must win three rounds in this draw to advance to the main draw.
On the doubles side, Barkai and Babelis are set to play as one of 64 teams in the qualifying draw. Eight teams from this bracket will move on to play in the doubles main draw.
The men's singles championship will air live on ESPNU at approximately 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 13. The live airing of the finals marks a milestone for collegiate tennis as it will be the first time that the ITA All-American Championships will be broadcast live on linear television.
In addition to vying for the All-American Championships title, players will also be fighting to secure automatic berths to the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. The eight singles quarterfinalists, four doubles semifinals teams and all consolation finalists will earn selection to the national tournament that is set to run Nov. 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.
FALL TITLES:
NC State picked up a pair of tournament titles in its opening weekend of fall play. Babelis and Barkai were crowned doubles champions at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 23, and Joseph Schrader won the singles title in his draw at the Duke Bonk Invitational that same weekend.
Babelis and Barkai posted a perfect 5-0 record at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and took down two nationally-ranked opponents over the final two rounds of action on the way to claiming the doubles crown.
