
Syracuse Sneaks Past Pack in Tightly Contested Match

RALEIGH, N.C. – Led by three attackers in double-digits, the NC State volleyball team was edged by Syracuse in a three-set match Sunday afternoon. Syracuse won by a combined eight points between the sets (25-21, 25-23, 26-24).
Jade Parchment led the Pack with a team-high 15 kills in addition to nine digs. Jessica Kemp and Lauryn Terry both contributed 10 kills while Pam Chukwujekwu had six on a .500 hitting percentage. Chukwujekwu also had a hand on all three of the team's blocks. Lydia Adam made an impact for the Pack with a career-high six kills and four digs in addition to a block.
Syracuse was led by Polina Shemanova who recorded 22 kills with a .463 hitting percentage.
MATCH RECAP
In a match that included 29 overall ties and nine lead changes, NC State struck first with a 5-3 lead. The Pack held a lead out to 12-9 before a Syracuse timeout shifted the momentum for the Orange. Syracuse took the lead with a 6-2 run. NC State tied the match twice more but a service error and back-to-back kills from Syracuse put the Orange ahead for good.
The Pack started strong in the second set with a 4-1 lead which included two errors from Syracuse. The Orange worked their way back into the set tying it at 10 but NC State held onto the lead thanks to a kill from Adam. Back-to-back attack errors for the Pack set up an opportunity for Syracuse to move ahead before entering a back and forth battle that saw eight ties.
Similar to the first two sets, NC State jumped out to a solid lead, 11-8, in the third. Syracuse kept chipping away, tying the match at 12. Another tight battle ensued, with NC State eventually going up 24-23. Syracuse was able to avoid set point with a kill from its setter, Elena Karakasi, and took the match on a pair of NC State errors.

NC State turns its attention towards Clemson and Georgia Tech, hosting the pair of ACC opponents in Reynolds Coliseum next weekend. The Pack take on Clemson Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. before welcoming Georgia Tech to town Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.

- Grace Irvin and Kaylee Frazier led the defensive efforts with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
- NC State recorded four more kills than the Orange (49-45) but were plagued by its service errors.
- The Pack have recorded a team-hitting percentage above .230 in four of its last five matches.
