RALEIGH, N.C. – After battling back from a 0-2 deficit, the NC State volleyball team's five-set comeback attempt was cut short by Boston College, Friday evening in Reynolds Coliseum. The Eagles took the match by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, 24-26, 12-25, 15-11.
NC State (8-13, 3-6 ACC) was led by a trio of double-digit performances as Jessica Kemp had a match-high 19 kills. Jade Parchment set a season-high with 17 followed by Lauryn Terry's 12. Pam Chukwujekwu was just shy, tallying nine on the night with a .316 hitting percentage.
Parchment recorded her second-straight double-double, contributing 10 digs. Kaylee Frazier's 25 digs was a match-high while Nina Sharpton tied her personal-best with 50 assists.
Boston College (16-6, 7-2 ACC) was led by Jewel Strawberry's 18 kills and 16 digs on a .441 hitting percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a slow start in the first two sets, NC State flipped the script jumping out to a 4-0 lead to open the third. The Pack would end up fighting from behind as BC took a 9-8 lead on back-to-back NC State hitting errors. In a set that featured seven ties, Parchment came up big with six kills and two blocks. Two of Parchment's kills came during an 8-1 Wolfpack run that put NC State up for good. Boston College tied the match at 24 with a block and kill before kills from Kemp and Parchment closed out the set.
NC State dominated the fourth set, hitting at a .500 clip as a team. A 6-0 run behind the serve of Kristen McDaniel launched the Pack to an 8-2 lead in the set. After Boston College pieced together a few points, another service run, this time behind Sharpton, would make it a dominant 16-6 Pack lead. Boston College had six hitting errors in the set, including three of NC State's last five points.
The momentum looked like it carried into the fifth set for NC State, taking a 3-0 lead on kills from Parchment and Kemp. However, Boston College quickly flipped it around with four unanswered points for the only lead change in the set. After getting within striking distance at 9-8, Boston College strung together three points on their way to the match victory.
