
Pack’s Comeback Falls Short at #23 Louisville, 84-77

LOUISVILLE, KY. – The 21st-ranked NC State men's basketball team fell to 23rd-ranked Louisville, 84-77, Thursday night inside KFC Yum! Arena.
The Pack drops to 15-4, 3-3 in the ACC, while Louisville improves to 14-5, 5-1 in the ACC.
The Pack was led by Braxton Beverly with 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range. The Hazard, Ky., native hit his 100th career three-pointer in the game and now has 103 three-pointers in 49 career games.
Torin Dorn added 18 points, while C.J. Bryce (15) and Devon Daniels (10) also reached double figures for NC State.
The Pack twice trailed by 10 points in the game, once in the first half and once in the second half. Both times NC State battled back to at least tie the game, but a season-worse 23 turnovers ultimately doomed the Pack.
The Pack trailed by 10, 61-51, with 11:41 to play, but a 10-0 NC State run tied the game at 61 with 9:26 to go.
The game was still tied at 65 with 7:29 to go, but Louisville would respond with a 10-4 run to take a 75-69 lead into the final media timeout of the game.
Beverly and Bryce both hit three-pointers in the final four minutes to keep NC State in striking distance. Bryce's three-pointer with 1:27 cut the deficit to 77-75, but after an NC State steal, the Pack was called for a charge, its sixth offensive foul of the game, with 46 seconds remaining.
The Cardinals closed the game by making seven of its eight free throws in the final minute to prevent the Pack from making one final comeback.
The Pack trailed 20-10 in the first half, but a 28-12 run gave NC State a 38-32 lead late in the first half. The Cardinals ended the half on a 10-3 run to take a 42-41 lead into the break.
The Pack returns to action Saturday afternoon inside PNC Arena when it hosts Clemson at 2 p.m. The game will be televised by Raycom.
