#8 Wolfpack Breezes Past Virginia to Improve to 17-0

NC State is off to best ACC start (4-0) since 1999-2000 season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The eighth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (17-0, 4-0 ACC) extended both the longest winning streak and the best unbeaten start to a season in program history on Sunday afternoon by easily defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 66-38 inside John Paul Jones Arena.
The victory was NC State's 12th by 15+ points this season and fourth win by double digits in Atlantic Coast Conference play. In 160 minutes of ACC basketball this season, the Wolfpack has led for 146:19 and only trailed for 6:18. In Sunday's win at Virginia, NC State led for 38:22 and did not trail for a second.
Junior guard Erika Cassell tied for a game-high 15 points. She achieved this new career scoring high on 7-10 shooting from the field while also collecting 10 rebounds to record the second double-double of her career. Cassell was joined in double figures by Kiara Leslie (12 points, 10 rebounds), Kai Crutchfield (11 points), and Elissa Cunane (11 points). All 11 of Cunane's points came in the fourth quarter. Three Wolfpack players (Cassell, Leslie, and DD Rogers) pulled down 10 rebounds apiece.
Jocelyn Willoughby led the way offensively for Virginia, scoring 15 points on 5-13 shooting. She accounted for nearly half of the Cavaliers' total made field goals (12) throughout the afternoon.

-NC State remains the only unbeaten team in the nation and is off to its best ACC start (4-0) since the 1999-2000 season.
-Virginia is the second opponent this season that the Wolfpack has held to 38 points or fewer. NC State has held four foes to 46 points or fewer.
-Under head coach Wes Moore, the Wolfpack is 4-2 against the Cavaliers.
-Junior guard Aislinn Konig hit one three-pointer on Sunday to extend her streak of consecutive games with a made 3FG to 50.
The Wolfpack dominated the Cavaliers in the first two quarters, leading by as many as 18 points before ultimately taking a 31-15 advantage into the halftime break. NC State shot 13-32 (.406) and held Virginia to a 5-26 (.192) success rate. Cassell led all players with 11 points on 5-7 shooting in the opening 20 minutes. Rogers pulled down eight rebounds while also contributing two blocks.
NC State put the game away with a 16-7 third quarter and never allowed the Cavaliers any closer than within 18 points (49-31) throughout the final 10 minutes of play.
NC State has an open date on its schedule on Thursday of this week and returns to action at home on Sunday, Jan. 20 when Virginia Tech comes to Raleigh. Tip-off from Kay Yow Court inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum is scheduled for 12:30 pm with live television coverage provided by Raycom (Fox Sports South in Raleigh).
