
Women’s Soccer Shuts Out George Washington, 2-0

RALEIGH – Freshman Anna Toohey came up clutch for the 13th-ranked NC State women's soccer team on Thursday evening with a pair of second-half goals, the first of her career, to propel her squad to a 2-0 win over George Washington at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The Wolfpack improves to 6-0-1 while the Colonials fall to 4-2-0 on the season.
Thursday's win extends the program's undefeated streak at home to 14 (since Sept. 7, 2017), and its overall undefeated streak to nine (since Nov. 11, 2017).

How It Happened
Neither team was able to create many scoring opportunities in the first half, as the teams had just a combined six shots with two of them on frame.
Toohey's game-winner came in the 58th minute when Kia Rankin fed her a ball to the outside and her shot ricocheted off the far left post into the net.
In the 79th minute she took a pass from Tziarra King inside the box after Hannah Keogh's throw in, and finished to the bottom left corner of the net to double her team's lead.
NC State outshot George Washington 13-10 and won four corners compared to the Colonials' one. Sydney Wootten made four saves in goal to collect her 20th career shutout, which ranks her fourth all-time among the program.

NC State will return to action Sunday when it hosts Nebraska at Dail Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
