COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Wolfpack will once again be well-represented on the USA Swimming National Team, as three NC State swimmers were named to the 2018-19 roster Tuesday. Current seniors Elise Haan and Justin Ress and former Wolfpack swimmer Hannah Moore were selected as members of the USA National Team, earning recognition as some of the nation's top swimmers for their performances this past summer.
The team is made up of the top six American athletes in each individual Olympic event, using the combined results of the 2018 Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships, the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
Because of their role in coaching these Wolfpack athletes, NC State head coach Braden Holloway and associate head coach Bobby Guntoro were both named USA Swimming National Team coaches as well.
Both Ress and Haan qualified for the team in the 100 backstroke after each earning top-six finishes in the event at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in July.
Ress claimed bronze in the 100-meter backstroke at the national meet, taking third place in 53.26. His time was a lifetime best and bettered the team record that he already owned.
Haan's qualifying time of 59.73, which she swam in the preliminary heats at the Phillips 66 National Championships, was also a lifetime best and a new team record. She took sixth place at the national meet to secure her spot on the USA National Team.
As previously announced, Moore claimed a spot on the USA Swimming Open Water National Team. She placed sixth in the USA Swimming 10K Open Water National Championships in May to earn her spot on the team.
Haan, Moore and Ress are three of the 111 members of the USA Swimming National Team for 2018-19. A full list of all swimmers and coaches can be found here.
