RALEIGH – The No. 21 NC State women's soccer team will hit the road Sunday for its first ACC road match of the season when it faces Notre Dame at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind. Kickoff is 1 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack owns an 8-2-2 (1-1-1 ACC) record while the Fighting Irish are 5-6-0 (1-2 ACC) this season.
Series History
Sunday will mark the eighth time the teams have met, as Notre Dame owns a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series.
The teams met twice last year, once in regular season play and then again in the ACC Championship quarterfinals. The Pack traveled to South Bend on Sept. 24 and suffered a 4-0 loss, but then powered past the Fighting Irish 4-1 in Raleigh in the first round of the ACC Championship on Oct. 29.
Last Time Out
NC State gutted out a 1-1 2OT draw with 15th-ranked Duke on Thursday evening at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Despite being down a field player for 47 minutes after Ella Bonner was issued a red card in the 63rd minute, the Wolfpack responded with a goal of its own thanks to Tziarra King's tally in the 82nd minute after the Blue Devils struck first late in the second half.
The draw marked the first time since 2000 that NC State has beaten or tied Duke.
Still On The Up
The Pack has continued to make significant strides this season, as its 8-2-2 record marks the program's best start since 1991 when the squad won 14 consecutive matches to start its season. No other squad has lost two or less contests through their first 12 matches since the 1991 campaign.
NC State has put together a strong resume up to this point, as it remains undefeated against top 20 teams this season, including two that reached the 2017 College Cup (Duke and South Carolina).
Scouting Notre Dame
Notre Dame has lost five of its last six matches, as it fell to No. 10 Florida State 4-0 on Thursday night at home in its last time out. Eight different players have contributed to the team's 13 goals scored this season, as five of them have recorded two. The team's two goalkeepers Mattie Interian and Brooke Littman have split time in goal this year as they own a combined 1.82 goals-against average and .667 save percentage.
