TEMPE, Ariz. – The NC State men's tennis team will begin the 2018-19 season with two doubles pairs and two singles players featured in the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Rankings, as administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic earned the highest doubles ranking of their careers as they check in at No. 15 to start the fall slate. After entering the ITA rankings for the first time in March, Igor and Ivan went on to lead the Wolfpack with 19 doubles wins during the 2017-18 season, including four over ranked opponents.
Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden also earned a spot in the top 30 for the second season in a row, ranking 28th in the preseason doubles poll. The duo paired up for the majority of the 2017-18 campaign, reaching the doubles final of the ITA Carolina Regional and competing in the main draws of both the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Fall National Championships.
Galarneau also ranks in the top 25 of the singles rankings, checking in at No. 24 to begin the season. The Wolfpack junior enters the 2018-19 season after a tremendous sophomore campaign that ended with a berth at the 2018 NCAA Singles Championships. A First Team All-ACC honoree, Galarneau took down 10 ranked opponents and reached a program-best No. 16 singles ranking twice last season.
Igor joins Galarneau in the singles rankings as he was named a personal-best No. 71. The senior entered the singles rankings for the first time in his career during the 2017-18 season.
As previously announced, NC State will be well-represented at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., which is scheduled to kick off in late September and will extend into the first week of October.
Galarneau will make his return to the event, earning a spot in the main singles draw for the second season in a row. In 2017, he became the first Wolfpack player to reach the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Igor and Ivan are also set to compete at the ITA All-American Championships after earning a berth into the main doubles draw.
NC State will also have players looking to earn spots in action during the early rounds of the tournament. Ivan will compete in the qualifying singles draw, looking to win three rounds to advance to the main draw. Tadas Babelis, Robert Turzak and Ogden will also head to Tulsa to play in the pre-qualifying singles draw from which 16 players will advance to continue competition.
In addition to vying for the All-American title, players will be competing to secure a berth in to the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
