RALEIGH – The No. 13 NC State women's soccer team will head up north for a pair of matches against Ivy League opponents this weekend. The Wolfpack will face Penn at Rhodes Field Friday at 5 p.m., then travel to No. 20 Princeton Sunday for a 7 p.m. matchup at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Pack enters the weekend with a 3-0-1 record, while the Quakers and Tigers are both 2-0-0 on the season. Princeton will host Saint Joseph's Friday evening before its match with the Red and White.
Series History
NC State and Penn have only met once before in program history. The teams met on Sept. 18, 2005 in Philadelphia, and NC State fell 1-0.
Sunday will be the fourth meeting between NC State and Princeton, as the teams met twice last year. The Tigers traveled to Raleigh on Sept. 2 for a regular-season match, and won 2-0. They met again in the NCAA Second Round in Cary, N.C., on Nov. 17 where the Tigers ultimately advanced 5-4 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 result.
Last Time Out
The Pack hosted 10th-ranked South Carolina on Sunday and earned a 2-1 victory thanks to a pair of second half goals by Tziarra King and Kia Rankin as well as key defensive play.
The victory marked the eighth time since the program's 2016 breakout season that the team has beaten or tied a top 25 program.
Homecoming
This weekend will be a homecoming for King, Maxine Blackwood and head coach Tim Santoro. King is a Sicklerville, N.J., native, which is approximately 30 minutes from Philadelphia and an hour from Princeton.
Santoro, a Cumberland Regional High School graduate, is from the same area as King. Blackwood hails from Somerville, which is roughly 30 minutes from Princeton and an hour and a half from Philly.
Record Watch
King scored her 28th career goal on Sunday, which ranks her 10th all-time in NC State's record book.
Sydney Wootten picked up her 18th career shutout in Monday's 1-0 win over Monmouth, which puts her one away from ranking fourth all-time among the program.
