Women's Tennis Releases 2018-19 Schedule

RALEIGH -- With five returning members from the 2017-18 team, the women's tennis team looks to find more success on the court this year with the addition of four new Pack members. The team finished ranked No. 34 in the Oracle/ITA rankings at the end of the season after earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. The Pack will participate in 10 tournaments throughout the fall season.
Season Outlook: Coach Simon Earshaw
"The strength of the ACC gives us a tremendous foundation to build our schedule on and this year is no different. The past few years at least 10 conference teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament and I'm sure that will continue this season. You can't really single out any particular match because everyone is going to be a battle and from mid-February onwards nothing other than our absolute best is going to help us endure the challenge.Â
One of the highlights this season is that we've been fortunate to add a couple of unique dates to the schedule. We will be kicking off the fall season two weeks from now with the USTA Bahamas Invitational. I'm sure this is going to be some great tennis and a memorable experience for all of our student-athletes. Our spring break trip, a repeat of last season's NCAA Tournament matchup against Baylor as part of the Oracle Collegiate Challenge during the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, CA, will provide more visibility for our program on a national stage. I'd like to thank everyone involved for being inclusive of us in these events and it shows how far we've come to receive the consideration we've been given.Â
Beyond all of this, we've got the usual important ITA events, both regionally and nationally, that we are targeting. We want to maintain our commitment to USTA / ITF Pro events for our student-athletes to understand and experience that pathway. Then we've bulked up our January schedule considerably ahead of the ITA Kickoff matchup with Mississippi St. and our home contest against Texas Tech. Overall, I'm very happy with how the schedule came together and I'm excited to see our program continue to rise to the challenge it provides."

The Fall
The Pack will open fall play on Sept. 14-16 with a trip to Albany, Bahamas, to compete at the USTA Bahamas Invitational. Following a two-week break, the team will head to Hilton Head Sept. 23 to compete on clay in the Hilton Head $15k. Soon after, some of the Pack will head to Los Angeles on Sept. 29-Oct. 7 for the ITA All-American Championships, while others will compete on clay at the Charleston $25k on Sept. 30-Oct. 7 in Charleston, S.C.
After a nearly two-week break, the Pack will compete at the Florence $25k Oct. 13-21, while others will make the short trip to Chapel Hill to compete at the ITA Carolinas Regional Oct. 18-22. The next stop on the schedule is Houston, Texas, Oct. 26-28 to compete at the River Oaks Invitational. Â

The Spring
The Pack will face eight teams that were ranked in the final Oracle/ITA top-25 last year and four top-10 ranked teams.
Starting off in Lake Nona, Fla., the spring season will kick off Jan. 11-13 at the Lake Nona Invitational with Texas Tech, Kansas, and Rice. From there, the team will travel to the Orlando $25K Jan. 13-20. Â

The Pack then returns home to face last year's No. 9 ranked Texas Tech Raiders and Campbell. Traveling north on Feb. 8-11, the Pack will compete at the ITA National Team Indoors Championships in Champaign, Ill.  They will then host Utah and James Madison on Feb. 16 before traveling to Charlottesville, Va., to open ACC play against Virginia on Feb. 22. Continuing on the road, the Pack will take on Boston College Feb. 24.  The Pack then hosts last year's third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Feb. 27 to round out February competition.
The month of March starts off with the Pack hosting three straight home matches. On March 1 the team will host Louisville and host again when Notre Dame comes to Raleigh on March 3. The Pack will then host Clemson and Appalachian State on March 8.  The Pack will travel to tennis-historic Indian Wells, Calif., to compete at the BNP Paribas Open vs Baylor, a team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament Championship Second Round by defeating the Wolfpack last year, 4-3. The Pack will travel home to take on last year's No. 17 Miami (FL) on March 22 and will also host Virginia Tech on March 24. March competition ends with a back-to-back road stint on March 29 at Pittsburgh and March 31 at Syracuse.
On April 5 the team will travel to Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest. The Pack then hosts Florida State, who made it to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in 2018, and Winthrop, the 2018 Big South Champions, on April 7. Making the short trip to Durham on April 10, the Pack will compete against Duke, who advanced to the 2018 NCAA Tournament Semifinals. They will conclude regular season ACC competition with Georgia Tech in Atlanta on April 14. Â
The Pack will start postseason play at the ACC Tournament April 17-21 in Cary in pursuit of the program's first ACC Championship.  If the Pack earns a selection into its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament, competition will begin May 3-5 with the first and second rounds held at Regional sites to be announced. Super Regionals will be held May 10-12 at Regional sites to be announced, with the NCAA Team and Individual Tournament Finals taking place May 16-26 at Lake Nona, Fla.
