NC State enters the season with an optimistic outlook, as the team returns 18 players from a 2017 squad that qualified for the program's first NCAA Championship since 2009. Entering his second full season at the helm of the program, head coach George Kiefer bolstered that formidable roster this offseason by adding a class of 12 newcomers that was collectively ranked 13th in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.
Â
"The first few days of training this season have gone really well," Kiefer said Friday. "The new players are learning how we do things and I love the amount of returning guys who are just being good people and setting good examples for them. They are teaching them the way we do things around here: from where we put our shoes away to how we defend. I love it. Every detail is important."
Â
Following the home exhibition against American, the Wolfpack will conclude its preseason with an exhibition match at Duke on August 18. The regular season begins in Raleigh, with NC State hosting USC Upstate on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 pm.
