Irvine, Calif. – Justin Ress won his second medal in as many nights at the Phillips 66 National Championships as he claimed bronze in the 100-meter backstroke Saturday evening at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatics Center.
The rising senior swam his lifetime best in the event, clocking in at 53.26 for the third-place finish behind Olympic gold medalists Ryan Murphy and Matt Grevers. His swim, which stands in the top 10 of the world rankings, also improved the team record that he already owned.
Ress adds a medal to his already successful outing at the national meet. He took second in the 50-meter backstroke Friday evening with the fastest time of his career that clocked in under the former American record.
Elise Haan was also in action in Saturday's A finals, as she also made an appearance in the top eight for the second night in a row. Haan took sixth in the 100-meter backstroke, earning her way into the finals with a lifetime best and team record of 59.73 during the preliminary heats.
NC State will finish its time at the Phillips 66 National Championships with a full day of action Sunday.
