RALEIGH, N.C.– Lauren Evans, Elly Henes, and Erika Kemp are set to conclude their 2017-18 track and field seasons in Eugene, Ore. as they compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 6-9 at Hayward Field.
After qualifying for competition by advancing out of the NCAA East Preliminary, Evans (shot put), Henes (5,000m), and Kemp (5,000m) will compete in the national finals of their respective events.
ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Evans earned a spot at the national meet for the first time in her career after posting the No. 9 shot put mark at the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Fla. After finishing just two places shy of advancing to the national meet in 2017, Evans was one of the 12 throwers in the region to qualify for the NCAA Championships this season. Two of her three attempts at the regional were personal bests, and her best throw of the outing was marked at 53' 10.25" (16.41m) to advance her to competition in Eugene.
Henes will also make her debut at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, competing in the 5,000m. The 2018 ACC Champion in the event, Henes placed second in her heat and fourth overall in the region with a time of 16:15.24 to earn an automatic spot at the NCAA Championships. The Wolfpack sophomore gained All-America status in the event during the indoor track season and will look to become an All-American for the first time in her outdoor career.
Kemp, who is also runnning the 5,000m, returns to the national meet for the second season in a row and the third time in her decorated NC State career. The senior took first in the 5,000m at the NCAA East Preliminary, crossing the finish line in 16:06.17 to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships. A five-time All-American at NC State, Kemp most recently earned All-America honors in the 5,000m to conclude her 2017 season, placing 13th at last season's national meet.
