Pack Junior will compete in France July 6-8
NORMAN, Okla. – NC State junior Stephen Franken has been selected to represent the United States at this summer's Arnold Palmer Cup. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played July 6-8 at Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, France.
Franken is one of 24 golfers (12 men, 12 women) that will represent the United States
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men's and women's university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players. The 2018 matches at Evian Resort Golf Club will become the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Since its inception, over 100 former Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on either the PGA or European Tours, 25 have represented Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, and more than 50 have claimed over 200 victories on the PGA or European Tours. The United States leads the series 11-9-1.
Franken has put together one of the best seasons in NC State history in his junior campaign. The Raleigh native currently has a stroke average of 70.27 per round which ranks second all-time in the NC State record books. Only Matt Hill in 2008-09 has a better yearly stroke average (70.10) than Franken's this season.
Franken's 62 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic in February is tied for the lowest round in NC State history.
The 2017 All-ACC selection also tied for the lowest score related to par in NC State history when he fired a 15-under par to win the Wolfpack Intercollegiate back in October.
This season, Franken has been the Pack's top finisher in six of 10 tournaments as he has recorded seven top-10 finishes, including five top-five finishes. He has played 21 of his 30 rounds this year at par or better.
The Raleigh native is the top-ranked ACC golfer on both golfstat (13) and golfweek (17) rankings.
Franken and NC State return to action on Monday, May 14 when it competes as the No. 6 seed in NCAA Regional held at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
