RALEIGH, N.C. – Seven members of the Wolfpack Regional Training Center (RTC) will compete this weekend at the 2018 World Team Trials in Rochester, Minn. All will be competing in freestyle action Saturday and Sunday.
Former Wolfpack All-American Tommy Gantt was the first two qualify. Gantt moved up to 74 kg, and captured first place honors at the Bill Ferrell International back in early April, his first tournament title. Gantt competed last year at 70 kg at the World Team Trials.
The Wolfpack RTC also had six qualify for this weekend's World Team Trials based on their finishes at the U.S. Open back on April 28.
A pair of rising redshirt-sophomores will be in action at their first World Team Trials, Hayden Hidlay at 70 kg and Nick Reenan at 86 kg. Hidlay placed second at the U.S. Open, his first-ever senior-level event, while Reenan has placed third at both the U.S. Open and the Bill Ferrell International, his first two senior-level events.
Four more postgrads that train at the Wolfpack RTC will also be in action at the World Team Trials.
At the U.S. Open, Quinton Godley was fourth at 74 kg, Timmy McCall was sixth at 92 kg, Lee Davis was seventh at 79 kg, and Mike Kosoy was also seventh at 125 kg. All four advanced based off of those finishes.
Another former Wolfpack wrestler will also be in action at the World Team Trials. 2012 All-American Darrius Little qualified after a seventh place finish at the U.S. Open. Little is currently an assistant coach at Lehigh.
A member of the incoming recruiting class will be in action at the Junior World Team Trials held at the same time, Trent Hidlay at 79 kg.
Another pair of Wolfpack RTC members also qualified for the World Team Trials, but will not be in action this weekend.
2017 bronze medalist at the World Championships, Nick Gwiazdowski, has earned a bye from the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament this weekend, and awaits the winner of the 125 kg weight class in a best two-of-three battle at the Final X on June 23 in Bethlehem, Pa.
Michael Macchiavello qualified for the World Team Trials after his 2018 NCAA Championship, but will not be in action this weekend.
