NC State Closes Competition At Virginia Grand Prix

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - NC State's sprinters and mid-distance runners capped off the weekend for Wolfpack track and field, competing at the Virginia Grand Prix in Charlottesville, Va. Saturday evening.Â
Philip Hall earned the Wolfpack's highest finish of the night, placing second in the men's 1,500m. He ran a 3:45.17, a nearly five-second PR, to take silver. The time also qualified him for competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships.Â
Alexis Postell kicked off action for the Wolfpack women with a sixth-place finish in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.09. She went on to run a 1:01.58 PR in the 400m hurdles, a time that is good for second in school history in the event.Â
Jada Griffin put up a career-best performance in the 400m. She ran a 55.56 to place fourth and to move into seventh in program history.Â
Abdur Rahmaan Kelly also set a new PR in the 400m for the second time this season. His 47.88 mark at the meet was good for fifth place.Â
Three of the Wolfpack men finished in the top 10 of the 200m. Quashawn Cunningham led the way with a 21.22 for fourth place. Kelly (21.54) and Will Hoffmann (21.60) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, each establishing new PRs.Â
Tiana Patillo was the lone female sprinter for NC State in the 200m. She placed sixth with a 24.53 mark.Â
Office assistant Tristine Johnson, who was competing unattached at the Virginia Grand Prix, took first in the long jump. Her 21' 3.5" (6.49m) mark beat the rest of the field by nearly a foot. She also took fourth in the women's 200m with a time of 24.45.Â
UP NEXT:
NC State will make the trip to Stanford, Calif. for the Payton Jordan Invite on May 3. The meet will serve as a final tune up for the Wolfpack athletes before postseason competition begins.
