#38 NC State Tops #40 Clemson in ACC Championship Opener

RALEIGH – After earning a bye in the opening round, the #38 NC State women's tennis team opened play at the 2018 ACC Championship Friday at the Cary Tennis Park and defeated #40 Clemson 4-2.
From the Coach
"Great effort by everyone today," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "This was a large match for us, especially to control our own destiny and good to see how were able to handle the circumstances. We started well especially at #1 doubles, Anna & Claudia needed that one having missed out on some opportunities to get highly-ranked wins for a variety of reasons recently. Moving into singles it was a battle, credit to Taylor, she came up big again continuing to have a most impressive freshman season. Being able to pick up the only match that didn't split was huge for us to stay out front. We've played a lot of close team matches and three-setters especially recently, earlier in the season we weren't putting ourselves in that situation with enough frequency and ironically it was something we talked about after the regular season match against Clemson. Since then we've had a fantastic response from the girls, have won eight of our last 10 and excited to get a rematch with Duke tomorrow. Go Pack!
