Â
RALEIGH – The No. 16 NC State women's basketball team has added Esra McGoldrick to its roster ahead of the 2018-19 season, head coach Wes Moore announced Friday.
Â
McGoldrick, a six-foot-two forward, comes from New Zealand and is rated as the No. 11 international player in the class of 2018 by ProspectsNation.com. She will be the third member of the incoming Wolfpack class featuring Elissa Cunane and Jada Rice.
Â
Wes Moore (NC State head coach): "Esra is a very versatile player and a very versatile scorer. She's comfortable taking off with a rebound and going the length of the court. She's capable of knocking down the three. She handles the ball and sees the floor well, and yet can also take a smaller defender down on the block and is comfortable scoring there as well. We are excited about her ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways. She's an inside/outside player who can do a lot of things."
Â
Keil Moore (national recruiting analyst for Prospects Nation): "McGoldrick is a highly-skilled forward who has the potential to bring versatility and flexibility to coach Wes Moore and his staff. She can play both forward positions and create match-up issues because of her size and ball-handling ability. McGoldrick, who is joining Elissa Cunane and Jada Rice as members of NC State's 2018 class, should pair well together with Cunane having the ability to face up and stretch the floor while Rice is a more traditional post. This combination gives the ACC program three versatile frontcourt players who can take advantage of match-ups and make an impact offensively."
Â
Led by fifth-year head coach Wes Moore, the NC State women's basketball team enjoyed a tremendous 2017-18 season, winning 26 games and returning to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. The Wolfpack posted a 16-2 record on Kay Yow Court that included two NCAA Tournament victories. The achievement of going 16-2 at Reynolds Coliseum marked the second best home record in 44 completed seasons of Wolfpack basketball.
The Wolfpack concluded the season ranked 16th in the final USA Today Coaches poll of the season, marking the third time under Moore that the program has finished a season ranked within the top 17.
