GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior forward Chelsea Nelson of the No. 23/22 NC State women's basketball team (24-8) was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament First Team for her three performances in Greensboro, the league office announced recently.
Â
Nelson becomes the first Wolfpack player to earn ACC All-Tournament Team honors since Marissa Kastanek did so in 2012.
Â
The senior from Antioch, Tenn., had a tremendous tournament in Greenboro for the Wolfpack, keying her team to wins over rival UNC-Chapel Hill and No. 18 Duke before falling in a competitive semifinal game against No. 4 Louisville. Nelson averaged 30.0 minutes, 16.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 16-37 (.432) from the field. In the quarterfinal win over No. 18 Duke, she set an ACC Tournament record with 22 total rebounds, nine of which came on the offensive end.
Â
Nelson and her teammates now await selection for the 2018 NCAA Tournament, which will be the program's 30th appearance. The bracket will be unveiled on ESPN at 7 pm on Monday, March 12.
