BLACKSBURG, Va. – Playing its second ACC match in as many days, the #46 NC State women's tennis team earned a gutsy 4-3 win over Virginia Tech Saturday at the Burrows-Burelson Tennis Center.
With the team scores tied 3-3, Adriana Reami pulled off a thrilling three-set victory at the No. 2 position to secure the win for NC State.
The win moves the Pack to 10-11 (3-5 ACC) and the Hokies to 12-6 (3-6 ACC).
From the Coach
"Well no surprise, 4-3 again today and this time we had the good fortune to come out on the winning side," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "It was an amazingly similar match to last year's loss here, same two players on the court in the end. Adriana had the match points in the second set, couldn't get it done, but today she just wasn't going to be denied. I think this was a much needed boost for the team. We've still got a lot of work to do. But, obviously every time you can pull through one of these, it's going to be very positive. Go Pack!"
Doubles
NC State continued to impress in doubles as it again won the doubles point. After falling at the No. 3 position #18 Claudia Wiktorin and Anna Rogers gained redemption for the Wolfpack at No. 1, defeating Elena Cerezo-Codina 6-3. Amanda Rebol and Adriana Reami then helped clinch the doubles point by overcoming Katherine Butler and Natalie Novotna 6-4 at No. 2.
Singles
With the match in the balance, Adriana Reami earned a gutsy three-set win over Caroline Daxhelet at No. 2 as she triumphed 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Taylor Bridges continued her winning ways as she earned 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Elena Cerezo-Codina while at No. 5 Bianca Moldovan prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 over Katherine Butler.
