
Wolfpack Falls In 4-3 Match At Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - In a thrilling match that came down to a tiebreaker on the final singles court, the NC State men's tennis team fell just short to Miami in a 4-3 decision Sunday afternoon. Playing at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, the 23rd-ranked Wolfpack fell to 11-5 (1-4 ACC), while the Hurricanes improved to 9-7 (1-4 ACC).
NC State opened the outing by claiming the doubles point. In a ranked matchup on court one, Miami's 50th-ranked Christian Langmo and Adria Soriano defeated 53rd-ranked Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic 6-3 to tally Miami's only doubles win on the afternoon.
The Wolfpack won the two remaining doubles courts. No. 63 Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on court two and did not look back on the way to a 6-3 win over Dane Dunlap and Bojan Jankulovski.
Tadas Babelis and Georgiy Malyshev matched up against Pablo Aycart and Tatsuki Shimamoto on court three. Babelis and Malyshev broke the Hurricanes duo's serve on deciding point to tally the 6-3 win and allowed the Pack to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Hurricanes tied the match up as Soriano defeated No. 24 Galarneau 6-4, 6-2 on court one.
With four singles courts extended into third sets, Ivan completed a straight-sets win over Shimamoto. Ivan broke the Miami freshman's serve to go up 6-5 in the second set and then served out the match, capping his 6-4, 7-5 win off with an ace to put the Pack back in front.

Dunlap tied up the score, earning another singles win for Miami when he bested Babelis 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and No. 90 Langmo gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the day, beating Igor 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Robert Turzak finished a come-from-behind win on court six against Niclas Genovese. Genovese won the first set 6-3, but Turzak took the final two sets 6-4 and 6-2 for his 10th singles victory of the season.
All attention turned to court four, where Malyshev and Jankulovski were locked up in a three-set battle. Malyshev won the first set by a 6-1 score, and Jankulovski took the second set 6-2 to force the deciding third set.
Jankulovski took a 6-5 lead in the final frame, but Malyshev dished up a big serve to force a tiebreaker. The buster remained tight throughout, but Jankulovski emerged victorious by a 7-5 score to give the Hurricanes the match.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack returns to Raleigh for four home matches in a row at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. NC State will host ACC opponents on back-to-back days next weekend, playing Notre Dame at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30 and facing Boston College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31.
