
Softball To Host Homewood Suites By Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team returns to action Friday when it plays host to the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge.
The Wolfpack (15-11) will welcome Niagara (5-13), Marist (8-15) and Kennesaw State (18-10), as the tournament will be a round-robin format. NC State will face Niagara and Marist at 2:30 and 4:45 p.m. Friday, and Kennesaw State at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
The No. 1 and 4 seeds will then meet at 2:30 p.m. Saturday while the No. 2 and 3 seeds will play at 4:45 p.m. Sunday the winners from both games will meet in the championship game at 12:15 p.m., while the losers will play in the third-place game at 10 a.m.
All of NC State's games will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.

Last Time Out
NC State traveled to Georgia Tech last weekend for a three-game series. The Pack dropped its opener 3-0, battled back on Saturday to even the series with a 4-2 win but a 5-0 loss on Sunday allowed the Yellow Jackets to clinch the series.
In the 4-2 win Chandley Garner hit a three-run blast in the sixth inning to lift her team past the Jackets, marking her fifth homer of the season. The team turned a double play in all three games last weekend, and currently ranks second in the ACC with a .972 fielding percentage.
All-Time Series
This weekend will mark the first-ever meeting between the Pack and Purple Eagles, and second time in program history NC State has faced the Red Foxes and Owls.
The Pack and Kennesaw State last met on Feb. 24, 2008, and the Owls won 4-3 in eight innings. NC State last played Marist on March 19, 2005, and won 3-2 in 10 innings.
Home Stand
Starting this weekend, 10 out of the team's next 14 games will be contested at Dail Stadium. NC State will host USC Upstate March 27, travel to Louisville March 30-31 and Liberty April 4, then return home to host Boston College April 6-8 in a series and Campbell April 11 for a midweek game.
Leading Off The Frame
NC State owns a .449 percentage when leading off an inning, reaching base 75 out of a possible 167 times. Compton leads the team with a .600 percentage as she is 9-for-15 in the situation, while Cheyenne Balzer, Sam Russ and Timberlyn Shurbutt have all reached safely eight times.
Not Looking Back
NC State is 13-2 when scoring first in a game, owning a 9-0 record when leading at the conclusion of four innings. The Pack is outscoring its opponents 114-91 and averaging 4.38 runs per game.
Extra-Base Hits
The Pack has hit 31 doubles and seven triples this season, ranking among the top six in the ACC in both categories. The team's seven triples is fifth all-time for most in a season while the squad is on track to rank among the top 10 all-time for most doubles in a season.
Scouting The Competition
Marist enters the weekend on a five-game losing streak after going 0-5 at Texas A&M's Reveille Classic last week. Ali Milam leads the Red Foxes at the plate with a .403 batting average, three homers and 17 RBI, while Megan Beiermeister paces the pitching staff with a 1.76 ERA and 4-3 record in 47.2 innings pitched.
Niagara has had a tough start to its season, winning just five games so far. Rachel Funk leads the team in batting average with a .343 clip along with 14 hits and 12 runs, and Karsen Cotton owns a team-best 2.92 ERA with a 2-4 record in 38.1 innings.
Kennesaw State has won three of its last five games. The Owls traveled to USC Upstate last weekend and took the series, then hosted Liberty in a doubleheader Wednesday and split with the flames. Patricia Awald and Olivia Tamewitz are both batting over .380 as Awald leads the team with 25 runs and Tamewitz owns a team-best 37 hits. Alley Cutting paces the pitching staff with a 1.43 ERA and 6-5 record in 68.2 innings.
