Kinneman Named NCBWA National Player of the Month

Wolfpack outfielder rewarded for stellar first month of season
ARLINGTON, Texas – After turning in one of the nation's best starts to the 2018 season, NC State baseball's Brett Kinneman has been named the National Player of the Month for February by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Kinneman turned in a .487 batting average during the month of February, highlighted by 19 hits which led the NCAA in that category following the opening month of play. He belted seven home runs to finish the month as the NCAA leader.

The York, Pa., native hit for the home run cycle in the second week of the season as he hit a grand slam against N.C. A&T, a two-run and three-run homer in the first game of the series against Furman and a solo homer on Saturday and Sunday against Furman.Â

He was named the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball, College Sports Madness, NCBWA and Perfect Game on Feb. 26 in addition to ACC Player of the Week honors.

Kinneman scored 11 runs during the month of February and tallied 23 RBIs in just nine games, leading the nation in RBI after the first month of the season. He compiled a 1.154 slugging percentage to go along with a .533 on-base percentage.

He tallied a pair of multi-home run games in February, leaving the yard twice in game one against Furman and versus Air Force. Kinneman also logged a triple and a double in the opening month to record 10 extra-base hits.

The Wolfpack's junior standout leads the team on the year with a .431 batting average, 31 hits, 31 RBI, 19 runs and 10 home runs. He leads the ACC in hits, runs, RBI and homers.

NC State returns to action Wednesday afternoon when the Pack takes on UNC Asheville at 3 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park.
