Women’s Tennis Falls 4-3 in Close Contest With Kansas
2/3/2018 6:25:00 PM | Women's Tennis
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Despite falling 4-3 to (RV) Kansas, the NC State women's tennis team took several positives out of the dual as Anna Rogers took the #1 singles player in the nation to three sets, Adriana Reami picked up a singles win over a nationally-ranked opponent and the Wolfpack continued its winning ways in doubles at the Jayhawk Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
From the Coach
"Another tight match today with Kansas, one that was very similar to our home match with them last season," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "We made a great start in doubles and managed to take the crowd out of the match in the early going. However much like yesterday we weren't able to capitalize and carry any momentum on into singles. From that point on it was a battle and whereas yesterday we pulled out the tight matches today we only managed one out of the three and that was the difference. Once again outstanding performances at the top of the line-up, Anna was right there with the #1 player in the nation deep into the third set, and you can see her game growing from one match to the next. Adriana pulled off another very quality win over Vogasari and showed exactly what we know she is capable of. I feel like our level was much improved this weekend but still we've got some areas where we have no productivity in spots which were our strength last year. If we can get two more players to step up and follow the direction we have with the top of the line-up then we are going to be a very good team. This weekend we went down to the wire with 2 strong programs on the road and some of those you win, some you lose, we can take heart from that but still have some unanswered questions that need to be addressed in the next 10-12 days."
Doubles
NC State continued its outstanding doubles play as it again did not drop a match; at the No. 3 position Bianca Moldovan & Helene Grimm earned a 6-2 win over Janet Koch & Maria Toran Ribes while at No. 2 Amanda Rebol & Adriana Reami overcame Despoina Vogasari & Tatiana Nikolaeva, 6-3.
Singles
Playing against the #1 singles player in the nation, Anna Rogers took KU's Anastasia Rychagova to three sets and pushed her to her limit. #1 Rychagova ultimately prevailed over Rogers 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
