Wolfpack Volleyball Sending Three to USA Volleyball Tryouts

Athletes Attending USA Volleyball Tryouts
RALEIGH, N.C. – For the third consecutive year, the NC State volleyball program is sending student-athletes to the U.S. Women's National Team Tryouts held in Colorado Springs, Colo. Rising senior Kylie Pickrell, redshirt senior Erin Chatman and graduate student Keira Moore will represent the Wolfpack at the event.

The tryouts will take place this weekend March 2-4 inside the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The Wolfpack's trio will be joined by 228 athletes from around the world, as a total of 231 athletes will compete for spots on the teams.

U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff will direct the entire tryout process. It will involve four sessions with three waves per session. Friday's first session convenes from 4-10 p.m. EST, while Saturday's sessions are at 10 a.m. (focus on serve/receive and individual work) and 4 p.m. (middle-centered and out-of-system focus).Â

The final session on Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. EST with tournament style play, along with 16-18 athletes selected by the U.S. Women's National Team staff to participate in a "USA" training session. The Sunday session wraps up at 12:30 p.m.Â

USA Volleyball will use #USAVtryout as the event hashtag for photos, notes, quotes and stories posted to its social media platforms Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram under the handle @usavolleyball.

Selected athletes for the U.S. Women's National Team may begin their training in Anaheim, California, as early as the spring of 2018, or when an athlete's scholastic or professional club season has concluded.

Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March.

Pickrell did an excellent job running the Wolfpack offense in her first season with the program in 2017, as she led the ACC in total assists with 1,301, which ranks among the top 25 of the NCAA. Her play allowed NC State's offense to finish the season ranked first in the ACC in total kills (1,768) and total assists (1,667).

The junior broke the rally-scoring era program record in NC State's thrilling five-set win at Florida State with 70 assists, which was the most by any player in the ACC this season and tied for third most in the NCAA.

A native of Coppell, Texas, she tallied the program's first triple double in the rally-scoring era with 47 assists, 19 digs and 13 kills versus Missouri State. Pickrell was one of just three players in the ACC to record a triple double this season.

Chatman redshirted the 2017 season and will be a redshirt senior in 2018. She started eight matches for the Wolfpack in 2016, after transferring from Ohio State. The Columbus, Ohio, native charted 131 kills on the year, highlighted by a career-best 15 against Boise State.

Moore recently joined the NC State volleyball program, as she transferred from Gardner-Webb. In 2017, her redshirt junior season, she started 23 of 25 matches and saw action in a total of 86 sets.Â

She was second in the Big South Conference in blocks, averaging 1.01 per set, and helped the Bulldogs finish second in the league in blocks as a team with 2.11 per set. She recorded 11 blocks in a five-set match against Sacred Heart, which was the most by an individual in the conference.

Hailing from Spartanburg, S.C., Moore was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11, 2017, after collecting 24 blocks over four matches to lift Gardner-Webb to a 3-1 record during the week. Following the strong performance, she led the conference in total blocks and helped the Bulldogs compile the best opponent hitting percentage in the league with a .144 clip.
