GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Chelsea Nelson and Akela Maize of the No. 23/22 NC State women's basketball team (22-7, 11-5) have earned spots on the 2018 All-ACC Teams, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Nelson was ranked seventh overall in the conference by both the league's coaches and members of the media, claiming a place on the All-ACC First Team. Maize was voted the third best defensive player in the conference by the league's coaches, claiming a place on the All-ACC Defensive Team.

With Nelson earning her place on the league's top team, NC State has now had at least one athlete recognized on the ACC's top team in back-to-back seasons for the first time since Summer Erb earned the honor in 1998-99 and followed it up during the 1999-2000 season. Former seniors Miah Spencer and Dominique Wilson were named All-ACC First Team by the league's coaches at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.

Named among 20 players on the watch list for the inaugural Lisa Leslie Award (nation's best center) at the beginning of the 2017-18 season … Has scored 10+ points in a single game 14 times this season (15 in her career) … Has recorded one double-double this season … Has led the team or tied for the team lead in scoring three times this season … Has led the team or tied for the team lead in rebounding once this season … Has swatted 56 blocks through 29 games this season, currently ranking as the sixth most in a single season in program history … Has swatted two blocks or more on 13 occasions this season … In two games, including the Wolfpack's win over No. 10 Florida State, she has turned away five shots from the opposing team … Averaging 24.1 minutes, 10.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 109-200 (.545) from the field.

Nelson, Maize, and the Wolfpack will open play at the 2018 ACC Tournament in Greensboro on Thursday, March 1 at 11 a.m. NC State will play the winner of UNC-Chapel Hill and Boston College.
