Wolfpack Rifle Finishes Sixth at GARC Championships

Phillips turns in NC State's best score in air rifle
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The NC State rifle team concluded action at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships Sunday afternoon, as the Wolfpack finished sixth in the event held at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the Shell Building.

After turning in the fourth-best team score in the smallbore competition yesterday with a 2308, NC State had a tough day in air rifle as the squad earned a score 2338, eighth best in the event, to finish sixth overall with an aggregate score of 4646.

Top-ranked West Virginia won the championship with a score of 4699 and Kentucky was second with a mark of 4686. Navy claimed third place with a 4663, Nebraska was fourth with a 4651 and Ole Miss rounded out the top five with a score of 4651.

Army finished seventh with a 4639, Akron was eighth with a 4637 and Memphis ended ninth with an overall score of 4624.

Lauren Phillips led the Wolfpack in the air rifle competition with a score of 589, headlined by a perfect fourth and sixth series. She recorded NC State's only perfect series in air rifle.

Claire Zanti logged NCSU's second-highest score with a 585, highlighted by a 99 on her fourth series. Zach Eisenberg earned a mark of 584 and Claire Spina shot a score of 580.

Kendra Jacobs rounded out the Wolfpack's counting shooters with a 577, while Will Marciniak also participated in the event and tallied a score of 571.

NC State has concluded the team portion of its season, as the Wolfpack finishes the season with an 11-7 overall record. Fortunately, Phillips has been selected to compete in the NCAA Championships on March 9 as an individual in the smallbore competition.
