Wolfpack Opens Weekend At Camel City, Power Five Invites

The NC State track and field team began competition at the Michigan Power Five Invitational and the Camel City Invitational Friday. Three Wolfpack distance runners established new PRs in their races, and both Elijah Moskowitz and Patrick Sheehan posted 5000m times that qualified them for the ACC Indoor Championships.

ON THE TRACK:
Gabriele Cunningham started off the day strong for the Wolfpack, finishing in first in her preliminary heat of the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.39 qualified her for the final in the event tomorrow.

Janel Pate finished first in her heat of the 200m, notching a time of 25.13. Shannon Patterson followed suit on the men's side of the event. His time of 49.48 was also the fastest mark in his heat.

Elijah Moskowitz (14:14.68) and Patrick Sheehan (14:17.07) added to NC State's list of ACC Indoor Championships qualifiers, and Sheehan's time was also a new personal best.

Gavin Gaynor and Edwin Rutto each improved their mile PRs by multiple seconds, as Gaynor ran a 4:12.24, and Rutto clocked a 4:17.78.
THROWS:
Fortenberry saw success in the weight throw open, taking third place in the event on his second attempt with a mark of 57' 2.25" (17.43m).

CAMEL CITY INVITATIONAL:
The Wolfpack had three competitors at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem Friday.

Gianna Frontera and Rachel Bartolomeo both ran in the women's 3000m race, taking 13th place and 23rd place, respectively. Frontera's time in the event was 10:19.55, giving her a second place finish in her heat, while Bartolomeo finished with a time of 10:29.30.

Kyle Christ represented the Wolfpack men, posting an 8:54.48 time in the men's 3000m.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will continue competition Saturday at both meets.

Dominique Clairmonte and Elly Henes are set to compete in the women's 3000m and the women's mile, respectively, as they and other collegiate athletes will get the opportunity to race against professional athletes at the Camel City Elite Invitational.
