
Wolfpack Shuts Out Wildcats, Advances To NCAA Second Round

RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Second Round for the third consecutive year and 11th time in program history on Friday evening, thanks to its 1-0 win over Northwestern in the NCAA First Round at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.
Jenna Butler's header goal off of Hannah Keogh's corner kick in the 76th minute proved to be the game-winner, allowing the Wolfpack to improve to 11-6-3 while the Wildcats end their season with a 10-5-4 record.
The result additionally marks head coach Tim Santoro's 50th career win at the helm of the program.

How It Happened
Despite not finding the back of the net in the first half, the Pack was comfortably in control as it held a 5-1 shot advantage (three on goal) and won five corners.
Northwestern came out of the locker room with two shots in the first five minutes, but NC State quickly gained control back of the game as a majority of play was on Northwestern's half of the field in the 25 minutes to follow.
Butler scored her first career goal in the 76th minute off of Keogh's corner to give her team the one-goal advantage. NU tried to find the equalizer in the final stretch, forcing goalkeeper Sydney Wootten to make a pair of saves in the 77th and 86th minutes.
Wootten collected her seventh shutout of the season and 24th of her career, which puts her in a tie for third all-time in program history.
NC State out shot Northwestern, 11-7, winning seven corners compared to the Wildcats' zero. Wootten made three total saves while NU goalkeepr Mackenzie Wood was forced to make seven.
