Wolfpack women defend title for third year in a row, NC State men win region for first time since 2016.

FORT MILL, S.C. – For the second time in three years and the fifth time since 2000, the NC State men's and women's cross country teams swept the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships as both programs picked up first-place finishes at the meet Friday.
NC State's women claimed their third straight regional title with a total of 70 points, and the Pack men earned their first regional win since 2016 with 83 points. With the victories, both Wolfpack squads earned automatic bids to next weekend's NCAA Cross Country Championships.
WOMEN'S RACE RECAP:
The Wolfpack women, who are ranked No. 11 nationally, continued to impress with all seven runners finishing in the top 35 in a field of almost 250 runners.
Junior Elly Henes turned in an impressive race, placing second for the second meet in a row after also finishing as runner-up at the ACC Championships. She crossed the finish line with a personal best 6K time of 19:47.6.
Dominique Clairmonte also secured a spot in the top five finishers as she placed fifth and tied her 6K PR with a time of 19:59.0.
Nell Crosby was the next to cross the line for the Pack, taking 19th place in 20:30.6, a season best for the NC State newcomer. Isabel Zimmermann (20:34.5) and Heather Holt (20:42.5) both ran the fastest 6Ks of their Wolfpack careers as they went on to place 21st and 23rd, respectively.
Savannah Shaw (32nd, 20:52.4) and Nevada Mareno (35th, 20:58.3) also both posted PRs to round out the competitors for NC State's women.
MEN'S RACE RECAP:
NC State's 26th-ranked men entered the meet sitting at third in the region and upset No. 16 Eastern Kentucky and No. 20 Furman on the way to winning the Southeast Region for the ninth time since 2000.
Ian Shanklin and Joe Bistritz were the first two finishers for the Wolfpack in the men's 10K. Shanklin placed 11th with a time of 30:17.6, and Bistritz clocked a 30:21.1 to follow just behind him in 12th place.
Edwin Rutto was NC State's third finisher, crossing the finish line in 30:26.0 to take 15th place. Elijah Moskowitz and Gavin Gaynor rounded out the scoring for the Pack, as Moskowitz placed 21st in 30:32.7 and Gaynor took 24th place in a personal-best 30:35.9.
Ben Barrett (53rd, 31:19.9) and Patrick Sheehan (93rd, 32:04.6) also suited up to race for the Pack.
ALL-REGION HONOREES:
All of the Wolfpack's scorers for both the men and the women garnered All-Region honors as 10 runners finished in the top 25 across the two races.
Henes (2nd) and Clairmonte (5th) repeated as All-Region honorees, with the nod being the third of Henes' career. Crosby (19th), Zimmermann (21st) and Holt (23rd) were all recognized as All-Region performers for the first time.
For the men, Shanklin (11th) took home All-Region honors for the second season in a row, and Bistritz (12th), Rutto (15th), Moskowitz (21st) and Gaynor (23rd) earned the All-Region nod for the first time in their careers.

NC State will conclude its season at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 17. The meet will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis.
