Women’s Soccer Welcomes Northwestern Friday In NCAA First Round

RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team is set to open NCAA Championship play Friday evening when it welcomes Northwestern to Dail Soccer Stadium. The first round matchup is set for 7 p.m., and will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack enters the tournament with a 10-6-3 overall record, while the Wildcats are 10-4-4 on the season. Friday will be the first-ever meeting between the teams.
NC State In The NCAA Tournament
Overall, NC State is 11-11-5 in the NCAA Championship and has advanced out of the first round 10 times. In 2016 the Pack made a historic run to the Sweet 16, and in 2017 went to the NCAA Second Round where it forced a matchup with fourth-seeded Princeton to penalty kicks.
This is the 13th time the Wolfpack has made an appearance in the tournament.
2018 marks the third consecutive season since 1994-96 that the program has earned an NCAA Championship berth, as well as the second consecutive year that the NCAA First Round has been held at Dail Soccer Stadium. Prior to the 2017 season, NC State had never hosted an NCAA Championship matchup at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Last Time Against A B1G Opponent In Postseason Play
The last time NC State faced a B1G opponent in the NCAA Championship was in 2016 when it traveled to Minnesota on Nov. 12. The teams battled to a 0-0 draw and the Pack advanced in penalty kicks (4-2).
10-Win Seasons
2018 marks the third consecutive year that the program has reached 10 or more wins under head coach Tim Santoro. NC State finished 11-9-2 in 2016 and 15-5-2 in 2017.
The last time the program accomplished the feat was in the 1994-96 seasons.
RPI
NC State will enter postseason play with an RPI of 20. The team's nonconference schedule was the toughest in the nation and its overall strength of schedule was rated the fourth-toughest.
NC State played nine opponents in 2018 that were ranked or receiving votes for the top 25 of the national polls and in the top 50 of the RPI.
Postseason Honors
Tziarra King and Ricci Walkling were both named to the 2018 All-ACC Second Team, as announced by the league office last week. It was King's fourth honor from the conference in three years and Walkling's second.

The Wildcats finished their regular season with a 4-4-3 record against B1G opponents, and finished ninth in the standings. The team earned a 1-1 draw at Iowa on Oct. 21 in its last time out.
Brenna Lovera leads the squad with eight goals and 19 points, while three other players have scored multiple goals this season. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood has played every minute this season for Northwestern in goal, as she owns a .63 goals-against average and allowed just 12 goals.
