INDIANAPOLIS – The 13th-ranked NC State women's basketball team (6-0) has been named the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Team of the Week after picking up two wins at the 2018 Cancun Challenge on Nov. 22 and 23.
NC State is off to its second straight 6-0 start to a season and third in the last six years. The Wolfpack defeated then-unbeaten Michigan State 78-74 in its first game of the tournament played at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya and then took down George Washington 69-61 in its second and final game.
Redshirt junior guard Grace Hunter was named the MVP of the Riviera Division after averaging a double-double with 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. The Raleigh native shot 15-26 (.576) from the field and 4-8 (.500) from three-point range during the two games.
The Wolfpack begins a three-game home stand when Michigan comes to Reynolds Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 29 for the ACC/B1G Challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm from Kay Yow Court at James T. Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. Live video coverage will be provided by ACC Network Extra. NC State is ranked 13th nationally in both major polls leading up to the game while Michigan is 32nd (AP) and 26th (USA Today).
