GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its rosters for the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and 12 NC State swimmers and divers earned spots on the squad for the meet, which is set to run Nov. 10-11 at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center on the campus of Purdue University.
The Wolfpack's selections make up part of 84 swimmers and 20 divers from across the conference's 12 programs who will represent the ACC at the inter-conference meet. In addition, NC State head coach Braden Holloway will serve as the head coach for the ACC's men's team.
Seniors Andreas Vazaios and Justin Ress and junior Coleman Stewart highlight the men's roster after each collecting conference titles during the 2017-18 season. Vazaios, who is the reigning ACC Male Swimmer of the Year, took first in the 200 IM at last season's conference meet and went on to win an individual title (200 butterfly) and a relay title (800 freestyle relay) at the NCAA Championships.
Stewart won two golds at the 2018 ACC Championships as he swept the individual backstroke events and went on to become a national champion in the 100 backstroke. Ress, who picked up national titles as part of both of NC State's winning freestyle relay teams, was the conference champion in the 200 freestyle in 2018.
Senior Jacob Molacek, who was an All-ACC performer in 2018 and won two national titles as part of the Wolfpack's winning 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams, and sophomore Giovanni Izzo round out the swimmers who were selected to represent the Pack men.
Junior diver James Brady earned a spot on the roster in the three-meter dive following his third-place finish and program-record score in the event at the 2018 ACC Championships.
Holloway was named the head coach of the men's squad after being honored as ACC Men's Coach of the Year for the fourth year in a row and fifth time in six years to conclude 2017-18. His Wolfpack men's team won the ACC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship for the fourth straight year and posted the best finish of any ACC team at the NCAA Championships, placing fourth overall.
On the women's side, NC State's conference titlists Elise Haan, Ky-lee Perry and Madeline Kline were selected to compete at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Haan comes off of a win in the 100 backstroke at last season's conference meet, as does Kline, who took gold in the platform dive. Perry, who won the 50 freestyle at the 2017 ACC Championships and is the conference's fastest swimmer that event, was also named to the ACC's squad.
Sophomores Tamila Holub and Julia Poole will join them to represent the Wolfpack women. Holub won a silver medal in the 1,650 freestyle at the 2018 ACC Championships, and Poole also garnered All-ACC honors last season, taking third place in the 200 IM.
Freshman Emma Muzzy also earned a spot on the team after a strong start to her Wolfpack campaign.
The Big Ten Network will provide coverage for the event. Saturday's coverage will begin at 5 p.m. ET on BTN2Go, and Sunday's events will begin at 10 a.m. ET live on BTN.
