LOS ANGELES – The NC State women's soccer team's season came to a close on Sunday evening in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship, as it suffered a 5-0 loss to second-seeded UCLA at Wallis Annenberg Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Wolfpack was without key starters Maxine Blackwood, Jenna Butler, Lulu Guttenberger and Ricci Walkling, as it ends the season with an 11-7-4 record. The Bruins, who are ranked No. 4 in the national poll, advance to the Elite Eight and improve to 17-3-1 on the year.
Much To Celebrate
Despite the season ending, the program still has much to celebrate from 2018. NC State made its third straight NCAA Championship appearance for the first time since the 1994-96 seasons, including a pair of Sweet 16 appearances and hosting the NCAA First Round in back-to-back seasons.
It was also the third consecutive season the Pack has finished with 10 or more wins, and the team earned five wins/ties against top 20 opponents.

How It Happened
Jessie Fleming scored a pair of goals for the Bruins in the first half. Her first came in the sixth minute with a strike just in front of the goal to the near left post. She doubled UCLA's lead in the 22nd minute when her shot off a corner kick hit the left post and found the back of the net.
As the first period came to a close, Karina Rodriguez scored in the 42nd minute when she found the ball in a scramble in the box after a corner kick.
UCLA tacked on a pair of goals in the 83rd and 85th minutes. Chloe Castaneda put a low shot across the goal to the bottom right corner, and Hallie Mace had the final tally with a rebound off a corner kick.
Sydney Wootten nine total saves in the match, as UCLA out shot NC State 26-5. Tziarra King and Michaella van Maanen each had two shots (one apiece on target) and Anna Toohey had one.
