
NC State Posts Six Event Victories on Day Two at IU Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four Wolfpack swimmers won their events Friday evening as the No. 3/7 NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued action at the IU Invitational.
After a strong start to the second night of finals, which saw both of NC State's 200-yard medley relay squads take gold, Coleman Stewart (100-yard butterfly), Emma Muzzy (400-yard individual medley), Andreas Vazaios (400-yard individual medley) and Elise Haan (100-yard backstroke) added individual wins to continue boosting the Pack's scores. NC State notched a total of 13 podium finishes Friday.
The Wolfpack women took possession of first place, and they lead the 8th-ranked Louisville women 1053.5-1005 through two days of competition. The Pack men, who have tallied 1069.5 points through 24 events, trail No. 2 Indiana (1187.5 points).
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS:
The Pack kicked off its evening with wins in both of the 200-yard medley relay races. Elise Haan, Sophie Hansson, Sirena Rowe and Ky-lee Perry clocked the team's fastest time of the season, taking first place in 1:36.07. For the men, Coleman Stewart, Daniel Graber, Nyls Korstanje and Justin Ress took the win with a time of 1:24.57.
TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES:
Stewart put together an impressive day, highlighted by taking first place in the 100-yard butterfly. After posting a 45.81 in the prelims, Stewart improved his NCAA B cut time to 45.45 in the A final. The mark was not only good for the win but is also the nation's fastest time in the event this season.
The Wolfpack women completed the podium sweep in the 400-yard individual medley. Muzzy, who broke the program record in the event last weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, won with a 4:08.25 mark. Kate Moore (4:08.66) and Makayla Sargent (4:09.15) finished second and third, respectively.
Swimming the 400-yard individual medley for the first time in his career, Vazaios won gold in the event in 3:46.18, a time that is an NCAA B cut and the fifth-best in program history. The Wolfpack senior also went on to finish second in the 100-yard backstroke later in the evening.
NC State's women also saw a stacked 100-yard backstroke A final, with Haan taking the win in a season-best 51.24. Kylee Alons (52.77) moved into fourth in program history with her second-place finish, and Perry (53.22) swam a lifetime best in the event to place fourth.
For the second meet in a row, a Wolfpack freshman set a new program record. Hansson clocked an NCAA A cut in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims and went on to better that mark to 58.44 in the A final as she swam the fastest time in NC State history in the event. She placed second at the meet.
DIVING:
Madeline Kline led the Wolfpack divers as the women competed on the one-meter boards Friday. Kline took third place in the event, posting a 259.70 score through six dives.
James Brady was the Pack's top finisher on the men's side, placing sixth with 325.45 points.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will wrap up action at the IU Invitational with a final day of competition on Sunday. NC State's swimmers will follow the same schedule of 9 a.m. prelims and 5 p.m. finals while the divers will compete in the finals on the platform at 10:30 a.m.
