RALEIGH, NC – The NC State men's golf team has signed Maximilian Steinlechner to a national letter of intent, head coach Press McPhaul announced on Friday.
"Max is very sound fundamentally," McPhaul said. "He is a tactician and a quality decision maker in competition. He ties his technique and decision making ability together with a steady, even keeled, competitive demeanor. With these attributes, he consistently puts the ball in good positions on the golf course. He can wear down the course and the competition by executing solid shot after solid shot. His experience as an international player is a great asset as well We are really grateful to have him join us at NC State."
Steinlechner is from Innsbruck, Austria and is one of the top amateur golfers in the world. Steinlechner currently ranks 45th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) and has been ranked as high as 39th, making him one of the most decorated golfers to ever sign with the Wolfpack.
The decorated amateur golfer is one of the top-ranked European Amateurs and is the No. 1 ranked Austrian Amateur. He Won the Austrian International Amateur Championship last year as a 17-year old with a total score of 11-under par. He is the two time defending champion of the Austrian Men's Strokeplay Championship, defending his title this year with a total score of 14-under par. He won the Austrian Boys Strokeplay Championship three consecutive years from 2015-2017.
