Wolfpack suffers first loss of season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After winning its first two matches of the 2018-19 season, the eighth-ranked NC State rifle team came up short against No. 16 Memphis, 4646-4630, Saturday afternoon inside the R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range.

The Wolfpack charted a team score of 2299 in the smallbore competition and a 2331 in the air rifle event to record its aggregate total. The Tigers tallied a 2302 in smallbore and a 2344 in air rifle to log their final score.

NC State moves to 2-1 on the year and 1-1 in Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) matches, while Memphis is 1-3 overall and in conference action.

Smallbore Notes
- Senior Claire Spina led the Wolfpack and finished third in the smallbore competition with a score of 579, headlined by scores of 99 on both series in the prone position.
- Will Marciniak finished closely behind her with a 577, as he turned in a pair of perfect series in prone.
- Claire Zanti fired a score of 574 with a 99 on her second series of prone, while freshman Emily Fisher notched a mark of 569.
- Tyler Lefebvre and Aron Tinter also competed in the event, charting scores of 562 and 545, respectively.

- Spina also headlined NC State's performance in air rifle with a score of 586 to finish third overall. She recorded 99s on her second and fifth series.
- Zanti claimed fifth with a score of 583 and Fisher scored a 582 to finish right behind her.
- Marciniak earned a score of 580, while Lefebvre logged a 569.
- Tinter rounded out the lineup with a score of 563.
