Wolfpack Shuts Out Miami, 1-0

RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team picked up its 10th win of the season on Thursday evening at Dail Soccer Stadium with a 1-0 result over Miami. An early goal by Kia Rankin combined with another strong performance by goalkeepr Sydney Wootten allowed the team to collect its sixth shutout of the year.
The Wolfpack improves to 10-4-3 (3-3-2 ACC) while the Hurricanes fall to 5-8-3 (2-5-1 ACC).
Wootten, the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Week, earned her 23rd career shutout, which puts her one away from tying for third all-time among the program.

How It Happened
Rankin gave the Pack an early 1-0 advantage with her fifth tally of the season in the second minute. She received a pass from Michaella van Maanen to the right side, and her low strike from the top of the 18' got past a defender and goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
The Pack's best scoring opportunity of the half after the goal was in the 35th minute when Tziarra King was played a through ball from Ricci Walkling in the final third, and took a shot just in front of the goal line but was blocked by Tullis-Joyce.
In minutes 54-64 the Pack tallied five shots off of three corners but was unable to double its lead. The Canes tried to battle back as all eight of its shots in the second half (four on goal) came in the final 25 minutes.
Miami outshot NC State 14-9, as Wootten made eight total saves and Tullis-Joyce stopped three of NC State's shots on goal. The Hurricanes additionally won five corners compared to the Pack's four.

NC State will face Louisville Sunday at Dail Soccer Stadium for its final home match of the regular season. Kickoff is 1 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra. The team's senior class will be honored prior to kickoff.
