Wootten Shines In 1-1 Draw With #13 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Goalkeeper Sydney Wootten was sensational in the NC State women's soccer team's contest with No. 13 Florida State on Saturday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla., making a career-high 16 saves to help her team battle to a 1-1 draw.
Both goals in the contest were scored in the second half, as Taylor Porter came up clutch for the Wolfpack with a tally as the clock ran out in the second half to send the match to overtime.
The result marks the first time since 2000 that the team has beaten or tied the Seminoles, and gives the Pack a 2-1-2 record against top 20 teams this season.
The Pack moves to 9-4-3 (2-3-2 ACC) on the season, while the Noles move to 10-3-2 (3-3-1 ACC).

How It Happened
The first 15 minutes of the match consisted of two shots apiece (one on target) from each team. Kia Rankin took both for the Pack.
The Noles began to put the pressure on with another 14 shots and six corners through the remainder of the half. Wootten was forced to make five saves, including one on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, and managed to keep the match at a deadlock.
In the 40th minute Tziarra King found a pair of opportunities down inside the box, but the first was blocked and second went high.
FSU opened the second half with six more shots and a pair of corners, then managed to score in the 69th minute. Yujie Zhao took the ball down to the left side of the six-yard box and found the bottom right corner of the net.
Wootten made another six saves in the second period for 11 total saves in regulation. NC State was unable to find a scoring opportunity in the half until the final second, when Taylor Porter scored her second of the season off of Hannah Keogh's corner kick to send the match to overtime.
The Noles tallied a combined seven shots in the overtime periods, putting five on target, but Wootten was phenomenal in those 20 minutes to rack up 16 saves in the 110 minutes.

NC State will return to Raleigh for its last two home matches of the regular season. The Pack will host Miami Thursday at 7 p.m. in its Pink Match, then welcome Louisville Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. Both will be played at Dail Soccer Stadium and broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
