#13 Wolfpack Rifle Slips Past #10 Akron in GARC Opener

NC State opens conference competition with win
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After opening the season with a strong score last weekend to earn the victory, the NC State rifle team followed that performance with an even better showing on Saturday. The Wolfpack edged No. 10 Akron, 4664-4659, to win its first Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) opener inside Bancroft Hall Rifle Range on Navy's campus.

The Pack fired a team score of 2313 in smallbore and a 2351 in air rifle to compile its aggregate score of 4664, while the Zips charted a 2318 in smallbore and a 2341 in air rifle to log a 4659 aggregate total.

NC State is now 2-0 under first-year head coach Emily Holsopple and is 1-0 in GARC matches, while Akron moves to 1-2 and 0-1 in conference action.

Smallbore Notes
- Kendra Jacobs matched her career-high with a score of 589 in the smallbore competition to lead all athletes in the match. She tallied a perfect second series in prone and fired scores of 99 in both kneeling series, as well as her first series in prone.
- Claire Spina turned in the Wolfpack's second-highest score with a 580 to claim seventh, highlighted by a perfect first series in prone.
- Will Marciniak charted a perfect second series in prone en route to a score of 576.
- Emily Fisher and Claire Zanti earned scores of 568 to round out the couting lineup for NC State.
- Aron Tinter made his collegiate debut in the match and scored a 549 in smallbore, while Tyler Lefebvre also saw action with a score of 548.

- Jacobs also notched the match-high in air rifle with a score of 594, just two points shy of her career high of 596. She fired a perfect first series and recorded 99s on each of her remaining series with the exception of the fourth series (98).
- Tinter tallied an outstanding air rifle score in his first collegiate match, registering a 587 to finish among the top 10 shooters in the event. The freshman logged a perfect second series.
- Spina also earned a score of 587, while Fisher notched a 583 and Zanti was also a member of the Wolfpack's counters with a 582.
- Marciniak competed in exhibition in air rifle and recorded a 581, while Lefebvre tallied a 573.

- Jacobs charted a career high in the aggregate with an 1183 thanks to her strong scores in smallbore and air rifle. That total was the best in the match.
- Spina also recorded a stellar aggregate score of 1167, fourth best in the match and second best in her collegiate career.
