Gymnastics Hosts Ball State, William & Mary in Home Opener Saturday

RALEIGH, N.C. – After a 3-0 start to the 2018 season the NC State gymnastics team returns home Saturday when it hosts Ball State and William & Mary in a tri-meet at 4:00 p.m. inside Reynolds Coliseum.
"As a coaching staff, one of our major points of emphasis to the team has been the little details," said head coach Kim Landrus. "We definitely improved on Friday night from the week before and we need to continue to build the momentum and focus on the little things so that all of our performances continue to climb every week."

Last Time Out
NC State maintained its perfect record on the season as it overcame EAGL foe UNC-Chapel Hill 194.650-194.375 inside Carmichael Arena. The Pack earned 15 top five finishes and was highlighted by Drew Grantham who posted a career best 39.200 to win the all-around competition.
Pack in the Polls
After its second week of competition the Wolfpack is ranked #33 on the Road to Nationals poll and #3 in the EAGL. NC State's vault average of 48.800 is currently ranked 37th nationally, its bars average of 48.513 is #34, it sits at #39 on beam with an average of 48.275 while its ranked #24 on floor with an average mark of 48.875.
Grantham are senior Chelsea Knight are currently the #2 and #3 all-around performers in the EAGL; Grantham has an average of 39.200 while Knight averages 39.113. Freshmen Lauren Kent has made her mark early as her 9.775 average on bars is currently third best in the conference while Knight's 9.813 beam average her fifth in the EAGL in that event.
Scouting Ball State
Ball State is ranked #46 nationally with an average team score of 193.125. They are ranked #38 on vault (48.663), #54 on bars (47.500), #37 on beam (48.325) and #39 on floor (48.638).
The Cardinals are 4-2 on the season and most recently finished second at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Jan. 14 where they posted a score of 191.725 to defeat Cornell (190.550) and Penn (190.325) while they fell to George Washington (195.300).
Scouting William & Mary
The Tribe is currently ranked #61 in the nation and has an average score of 190.476. William & Mary is currently ranked #49 on vault (48.325), #59 on bars (47.275), #67 on beam (40.075) and #62 on floor (47.800).
It opened its season going 0-2 in a tri-meet with Towson and Temple on Jan. 14 as its score of 190.475 fell short of the Tigers' mark of 194.725 and Temple's 191.575.
