Wolfpack Set For VMI Keydet Invitational

RALEIGH--The NC State track and field team is set to continue its indoor schedule Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20 at the VMI Keydet Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va.

Over 25 programs are sending representatives to take part in this weekend's meet, and NC State is set to have a strong presence, with 38 athletes competing in 23 different events. Nine of the Wolfpack's distance runners are set to toe the line for the first time in the 2018 track and field season after having raced during the 2017 cross country season.

The Wolfpack came away from the Carolina Cup last weekend with 15 podium finishes, a collection of new personal records, and a new school record.

Gabriele Cunningham posted a 7.35 in the 60m dash to break her own program-best mark. The time was a new PR for Cunningham, who also set a personal-best of 8.22 and placed first in the 60m hurdles on the same day. Dylan Peebles also saw success on the track, posting a silver medal performance with a PR of 6.85 in the 60m dash.

In the field events at the Carolina Cup, Evans and Davis once again swept the weight throw with winning marks of 62' 1.75" (18.94m) and 66' 7.00" (20.29m), respectively. Tyson Fortenberry's final weight throw attempt established a new PR of 55' 1.50" (16.80m), and long jumper Lauren White improved her PR to 18' 8.50" (5.70m).

QUALIFYING MARKS:
Through the first few meets of the indoor season, the Wolfpack has put up 16 marks that qualify for the 2018 ACC Indoor Championships, which is set to be held Feb. 22-24 in Clemson, S.C.

NC State also currently has five athletes across six events who sit in a national qualifying position. Elly Henes and Dominique Clairmonte both rank in the top 16 in the 5000m with times that they set early in the season at the Boston University Season Opener. Cunningham currently has qualifying marks in both the 60m hurdles (6th) and the 60m dash (11th).

Evans and Davis also find themselves holding some of the nation's best marks in the weight throw. Davis still owns the nation's top mark with his 76' 3" (23.24m) throw from the JDL College Kick-off, a throw that no athlete in the nation has come within two meters of.

NC State will get to compete at the 2018 ACC Indoor Championships site as it participates in the Bob Pollock Invite in Clemson, S.C. from Jan. 26-27. The Wolfpack will also send a collection of athletes to the Terrier Classic in Boston on those same days.
