No. 13 NC State Rifle Ties Program Record Versus Third-Ranked Kentucky

Wolfpack ties overall program record, fires season high in smallbore
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Competing in a facility where NC State has historically fired strong scores, the 13th-ranked Wolfpack rifle team continued that trend as the squad tied the program record with an aggregate score of 4673 Sunday inside the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.

The Pack charted a season-high 2319 in the smallbore event, second highest in program history, and a 2354 in air rifle to compile its aggregate total (4673). No. 3 Kentucky fired a team score of 4689 to win the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) matchup thanks to a 2321 in smallbore and a 2368 in air rifle.

The United States Coast Guard Academy also competed in the contest, as the Bears were outdone by NC State and Kentucky with their mark of 4515 after logging a 2240 in smallbore and 2275 in air rifle.

Overall thoughts…
"While clearly, we're pleased to tie the school record today, our challenge coming out of this match is to find a way to first maintain, and then improve upon this level of performance," said head coach Keith Miller. "That's what it's going to take for us to move into the top eight and make the NCAAs, which is one of our primary goals.
"Kentucky was a bit off today, but still outshot us overall. We were competitive in smallbore, but we struggled in air rifle and that was the difference."

- The Wolfpack had two shooters place among the top three in the smallbore competition, as Lauren Phillips took second with a score of 588 and Kendra Jacobs was third with a 582.
- Phillips notched a perfect first series in prone and recorded a 99 on her second prone series and second standing series.
- Will Marciniak finished sixth in the discipline with a score of 577 thanks to a pair of 99s in the prone position.
- Zach Eisenberg was one of just two shooters in the match to record a perfect 100 on both series in prone, but struggled slightly in kneeling to earn a score of 572.
- Claire Zanti rounded out the counting lineup with a score of 566.
- Claire Spina and Tyler Lefebvre also competed in the event, firing scores of 554 and 541, respectively.

- Jacobs turned in a career performance in air rifle, as she logged a perfect second, fourth and fifth series to chart a personal best 596, good for second in the competition.
- Phillips finished right behind her with a 594 with 100s on her first and third series.

- Marciniak shot a score of 579 and Lefebvre logged a 567.

- Phillips' 1182 in the aggregate was a career high and helped finished second in the overall standings, as the Wolfpack's top performer.
