RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team will look to start Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play 2-0 for the first time since 2013 when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit Reynolds Coliseum Sunday afternoon. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
The Wolfpack heads into the matchup with a 6-6 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference action, while the Irish are 10-2 and 0-1. Notre Dame is currently receiving 73 votes for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA Top) Poll to occupy 27th, two spots shy of the top 25.
The match will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra, accessible through Watch ESPN or the Watch ESPN App. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth (17 or younger). Admission is free for children age two or younger.
Last Time Out
In its last outing, NC State picked up its first win against UNC-Chapel Hill since 2012 in a five-set thriller. The Pack opened ACC play with a victory for the first time since the 2014 campaign, when the squad defeated Syracuse.
Notre Dame came up short in a five-set match in its most recent outing at Louisville on Friday. The Fighting Irish led 2-1 in the contest before the Cardinals rallied for the 3-2 victory.
Changing History
NC State's 3-2 win versus UNC-Chapel Hill was the first victory for the Wolfpack in the series since 2012, snapping a streak of nine consecutive wins for the Tar Heels.
Something's Gotta Give
Heading into Sunday's matchup, NC State leads the ACC in team hitting percentage with a .269 clip and Notre Dame leads the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .129.
The Wolfpack's 13.89 kills per set is second best in the league and the Irish lead the ACC in blocks per set with 2.83 and digs per set with 19.19.
Scouting Notre Dame
Notre Dame heads into Sunday's match strong, as the Fighting Irish have won four of their last five matches to own a 10-2 mark. The Irish did not drop a set at the Shamrock Invitational last weekend, highlighted by a 3-0 sweep against No. 23 Michigan State.
The Fighting Irish are receiving 73 votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, two spots shy of the top 25 to check in at No. 27. In the PrepVolleyball Rankings, UND is listed at No. 41.
The all-time series is tied at three apiece, as Notre Dame won last season's lone matchup, 3-0, in Indiana. NC State won the last meeting between the programs in Raleigh on Oct. 30, 2015, 3-2.
Sophomore outside hitter Jemma Yeadon leads the squad offensively with 150 kills or 4.17 kills per set. Senior middle blocker Sam Fry has also been a force on offense, as she has put down 91 kills to go along with a team-best .305 attacking percentage. At setter, senior Caroline Holt is averaging 10.25 assists per set and the Irish's junior libero Ryann DeJarld highlights the defense with 6.52 digs per set, which leads the nation.
