BUDAPEST, Hungary – Following his national championship in the 50-meter backstroke at the U.S. National Championships, rising junior Justin Ress has given himself the opportunity to take things a step further and end up on the podium at the FINA World Championships, as he qualified for the final and recorded the fifth-fastest time overall.
Ress' time of 24.70 in the semifinal narrowly trailed Camille Lacourt of France's time of 24.70, showing he is within striking distance of a world championship.
"Congratulations to Justin in his first World Championships, earning a chance to go for the podium in the finals" said head coach Braden Holloway. "Get your schedules ready to watch tomorrow, Wolfpack Nation!"
Earlier in the day, Ress finished his heat in a time of 24.86, which tied for the sixth-fastest time and allowed him to advance to the semi-final.
