BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former NC State women's basketball player Ashley Williams recently earned a graduate manager position on the women's basketball coaching staff at Indiana University.
Â
Williams is a recent 2017 graduate of NC State, where she began her basketball career as a walk-on in 2013. During her sophomore campaign and second straight season as a walk-on, she earned the team's co-Sixth Man of the Year award and was NC State's second most accurate shooter at 42 percent. In her junior season, Williams continued her success on both the court and in the classroom, earning a 3.92 GPA in Industrial Engineering and receiving the Atlantic Coast Conference's 2016 Kay Yow Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Leaving her mark with three other seniors during the 2016-17 season, Williams led her team to the second round of the NCAA tournament while ending her career ranked fourth in program history with a career 3FG percentage of 37 percent.
Â
"I'm really excited to begin my coaching career at Indiana," Williams said. "It is a great school with a lot of history. I am excited about the staff; they are building a culture that will continue to thrive and I am happy to be a part of it."
Â
In March, Williams attended the 2017 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) workshop in Dallas with classmate Miah Spencer. There she attended workshops that gave her the necessary skills to be a top applicant for coaching positions in women's basketball.
