
Young Wolves Excel at USA Championships

Freshman Tim Bason won the junior 3000 meter steeplechase at the USA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, California, Saturday evening, while several young Wolfpack sprinters also excelled.
Bason redshirted the indoor and outdoor seasons during his rookie campaign and had never run a full 3000m steeplechase before posting tonight's winning mark of 9:15.40.
In other junior action, Sophomore Gabriele Cunningham demolished the school record in the women's 100 meters, clocking in at 11.26 in the prelims. The previous best mark was Felicia Fant's 11.41 in 2004. The Charlotte native finished sixth in the finals with an 11.56 mark.Â
Cunningham was the runner-up in the junior 200 meters with a mark of 23.56 in the finals.
On the men's side, freshmen Dylan Peebles and Cravont Charleston finished 2nd and 3rd in the 200 meter final respectively. Peebles posted a 20.95, while Charleston crossed the line at 21.10.Â
Charleston, the ACC Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year, finished 3rd in the junior 100 meters with a 10.43 mark after running a 10.37 in the prelims.
